Update to the “100-Day Walking Challenge”

All rise and let the church say, AMEN!!!  Yes, WE CAN!!! We did it!!! Still going strong!!!

Let me start by saying how PROUD I am of me and my husband, Romeo.  We completed our 100-day challenge with so much pride. We did not miss a day and it’s now become a routine we look forward to.  Today, March 7, 2019, we are still walking and have not missed a day since our initial start on September 11, 2018.

I must admit, it’s a little competitive though.  We’re both competitive people but we also want to make sure each of us succeed.  Remember the song by Gladys Knight, “Neither one of us want to the first to say goodbye” – well, that’s the way we are with our walking challenge.  Neither one of us want to be the first to miss a day.

Let me share a funny story about our trip in January, 2019 to Jacksonville, Florida to a friend’s birthday celebration. We arrived at our hotel late in the evening around 6:30PM, checked in and relaxed for a while after a six hour drive.  Around 7:30PM we went to the hotel’s exercise room to do our walk but found the treadmill out of order. It was a rainy weekend so we decided to go to the nearest mall and walk the mall. Needless to say, when we entered through Dillards, I had to shop around the store first. I decided to try on several dresses since I had lost a few pounds and in my excitement, time passed quickly; the store and the mall was closing.  Yes, I did find a pretty red dress to wear for upcoming Valentine’s Day, but now we had to find an alternative to our plan to walk the inside of the mall.

The rain had stopped at this point, so we decided to walk the parking lot of the mall.  It was well lit and employees were leaving to go home. We had such fun and laughed as we made up horrific (but funny) stories about what could happen to two people walking a parking lot at 10:30 at night…. Especially after seeing the movie, “Get Out”.  You see where I’m going with this – right?  In our fictitious worst-case-scenario-story, after our friends got word of our story, we imagined our friends and family saying, “What in the world were they thinking and why were they walking around a parking lot at that time of night.  There is something “fishy” about this story.” Each of us made up our stories and we walked and laughed in the dampness of the evening. It’s truly amazing how simple things can bring so much joy.

I’ve definitely progressed in my walking journey as to even jog for a few minutes, walk again, and jog again.  The updates will continue as we progress in our journey to better all around health and happiness. Blessings to all who may read my blog and best wishes – always.
